Microsoft Keen To Protect Customer Data

Microsoft, worried about losing customer confidence abroad, has decided to appeal a ruling by Chief Judge Loretta Preska that would force the company to hand over data from their email center in Ireland.

The worry, for both Microsoft, and other tech giants, is that their foreign customers will believe that they simply hand over data to security authorities in the US without due process. This could cause huge losses in revenue, and other large companies like Apple, Cisco Systems, and Verizon have joined Microsoft in support, offering public opposition. Interestingly enough, this case is the first of its kind, as corporations rarely challenge U.S. search warrants.

As of now, despite Chief Judge Loretta’s decision, Microsoft will proceed to the appeals court and fight for the privacy of their foreign customers. More to come on as this story develops!
